Things are going great at the office; for awhile I was feeling a bit overwhelmed because A LOT of graphic design projects kept getting put on my desk on top of the other projects I have going on. However, I had a one-on-one meeting with my supervisor and she told me that she was concerned that I was being spread too thin and we nixed the literature review I was doing (that I really didn't like). I'm definitely feeling better about my workload now--especially since this week was pretty busy and I've checked a few things off my list.
My birthday was this week--23 years old. Lyndsey and Steve came to see us this past Saturday for a day out in Ann Arbor which was a lot of fun. We ate lunch at Cafe Habana, a Cuban restaurant downtown. I thought it was really good but James felt like it wasn't enough. So we headed down the street to Kilwin's Chocolates for some delicious ice cream. I had cinnamon crumb cake (with real chunks of cake in it!!), James got his favorite cookie dough, Lyndsey ate toasted coconut and Steve munched on chocolate peanut butter. You can't beat some great ice cream. Lyndsey wanted to go shopping afterward so we went to a bohemian dress shop called Orchid Lane and got some $15 dresses. This place was hippie paradise; cheap clothes, lots of brightly colored fabrics, and all the wooden jewelery a person could ever want. James told me he'd buy me another dress that I really liked from there for my birthday this weekend! We ended the day with some coffee at Cafe Ambrosia. Unfortunately their service staff was a little rude--it blows my mind at how we frequently happen upon snarky baristas in Ann Arbor. There must be a cult or underground club because they all seem too look down at you from their hipster, vintage bi-focals. Oh well, at least the coffee was delicious.
On Sunday, my mom and dad came to visit us. We went out to Connor O'Neil's for some Irish pub food. My Irish stew was really good! They also gave me a $10 gift card because my birthday was the next day--totally awesome. We finished the meal off with a Bailey's Irish cream cheesecake and some hard cider. So delicious. It was really nice spending time with my mom and dad--Sundays in Ann Arbor are much better since it's usually pretty laid back.
Monday, James took me to Seva, a vegetarian restaurant and I think it is our new favorite restaurant. Every bite felt like it was cooked with love. I had ravioli and James had a huge black bean burrito. They had a red onion and Gruyere cheese soup as a special, so we order a small cup to try and it was decadent. It tasted like French onion soup with the cheese and bread mixed in. So I guess you could say that we were VERY happy campers after that meal (especially since my dinner was FREE!!). We headed to Ben and Jerry's for some free Birthday ice cream and had small cups since we were both still pretty full.
Overall, GOOD BIRTHDAY! (especially since I was sang to TWICE during the day)
